We started off the morning with a delightful breakfast at Bills, just a short walk from our hotel. Nestled in a cozy corner, the restaurant was larger than I expected, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Bills Cafe
The waitstaff were incredibly friendly and attentive, adding to the positive experience. I ordered a luxurious mocha that paired beautifully with my meal: sourdough toast generously topped with perfectly poached eggs and slices of creamy, ripe avocado.
The combination of the crunchy toast with the soft, rich eggs and the smooth avocado was a delight to the palate. Will opted for a more traditional hearty breakfast, choosing eggs, toast, crispy bacon, and a side of fluffy pancakes.
Every bite of my breakfast was a pleasure; the eggs were cooked just right, offering that satisfying burst of yolk when lightly pressed, and the avocado was fresh, adding a
buttery texture that complemented the crisp sourdough beautifully. The mocha provided a rich, chocolaty depth that rounded off the meal perfectly.
Will's meal was equally impressive. The bacon was perfectly crispy, providing a satisfying crunch with each bite, while the pancakes were light, airy, and softly golden, practically melting in the mouth. Together, these elements combined to start our day on a deliciously high note, setting the tone for the adventures that lay ahead.
Overall, I'd rate our breakfast experience an 8/10. While the food could have been a touch more flavorful, the excellent service, convenient location, and spacious setting made it a wonderful start to our day.
Changing of the Guard
After breakfast, William and I decided to split up to tackle different plans for the day. William headed off to join a tour I had booked for the Changing of the Guard, while I set off to London UK Brides in search of the perfect wedding dress!
William's meet-up point for the tour was Piccadilly Circus, just a ten-minute walk from our hotel. Upon arrival, the tour guide began with a brief history lesson on the Changing of the Guard. He learned that this iconic ceremony dates back to the late 15th
century, originally involving the Yeoman of the Guard under King Henry VII. It evolved over the centuries, with the Household Division and the distinctive Foot Guards being formally established during King Charles II's reign in the 17th century. Today, it's a symbol of continuity and duty, showcasing the British military's ceremonial prowess.
After the history lesson, the group made their way to Buckingham Palace. As William found a spot among the eager crowd, he was captivated by the sight of the Old Guard assembling in their iconic red tunics and towering bearskin hats. The atmosphere
buzzed with anticipation. Soon, the Regimental Band led the New Guard from Wellington Barracks, filling the air with a mix of traditional military marches. The precision and discipline of the guards were mesmerizing as they performed the formal inspection and the ceremonial handover of the Palace keys.
William described the entire experience as incredibly immersive and awe-inspiring. He felt a profound connection to the rich history and traditions of the British monarchy. Witnessing the Changing of the Guard firsthand, with its blend of meticulous military
precision and vibrant pageantry, left him with a deep appreciation for this enduring tradition. Meanwhile, my adventure in search of the perfect wedding dress was just beginning.
London UK Bride
I made my way over to London UK Bride on Walworth Street, debating whether to take an Uber or the Tube. After learning about London's congestion charge—a fee imposed on vehicles driving in the city center to reduce traffic and pollution—I decided the Tube would be the easier since an Uber would likely not pick me up because of the fee. My journey involved a change to another train but navigating the labyrinth of signs was a bit confusing, I managed to find my way thought.
Stepping out of the Elephant & Castle Tube station and onto the street, I was struck by how run-down the area felt. The atmosphere was a bit unsettling, and the people around made me nervous. I quickened my pace, eager to reach the bridal shop and escape the uneasy feeling.
After a brisk 13-minute walk, I finally arrived at London UK Bride and was immediately put at ease by the friendly woman at the counter. She welcomed me warmly and invited me to browse through the dresses. She also offered to pick out some gowns that she thought would both fit me well and look stunning. Her kindness and professionalism made me feel comfortable and excited to find the perfect wedding dress.
